Certificate IV in Education Support - Special Needs (CHC41708)

Thank you for your interest in Certificate IV in Education Support - Special Needs (CHC41708) with Australian Training Professionals.

There is currently a huge demand for Special Needs Education Assistants to help teachers in schools by providing classroom support to students with a wide range of severe learning, physical and or behavioural difficulties. Assistants may work in a special school or in a mainstream school.

They work under the supervision of the class teacher, helping and assisting pupils to achieve their learning goals. Other duties depend on the assistants’ particular job, the type and severity of the pupils’ disabilities and their age but may include;

  • Helping pupils to improve their independent living skills
  • Supporting pupils in social activities and outings
  • Assisting pupils during therapy sessions
  • Attending to pupils’ physical needs

Schools are becoming more inclusive, integrating special education students into general education classrooms. This of course means that Certificate IV Education Assistants are in demand as they play a very important part of children with special needs to assist with their learning capabilities, so job prospects are excellent.

Our program consists of 1 day a week for 5 weeks and 2 weeks (80hrs) of practical on-the-job training.  Feedback from our graduates who have gained this qualification has been, without exception, very positive, especially in terms of its relevance to the education sector.

Certificate IV (CHC41708) qualification covers workers in a range of education and school settings who provide assistance and support to teachers to facilitate students’ learning under broad based supervision.

Some job roles may require tasks to be performed with a moderate level of autonomy and/or the provision of supervision/leadership to other staff/volunteers. Certificate III in Education Support is a pre-requisite of Certificate IV.

Students who have successfully obtained Certificate III (CHC30808) or equivalent will have previously completed the first 6 units (below) and will be directly credited for these units. The remaining 9 units are delivered to obtain Certificate IV (CHC41708). Students will need to provide a certified true copy of Certificate III upon registration.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The Units of Competency are listed for each qualification on our website and in our information pack. If you have successfully completed any units from the qualifications at another Registered Training Organisation (RTO), we will recognise this study as partial completion of the qualifications.

Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC)

We also offer an RCC process that ensures you are not required to complete structured training for competencies that have already been achieved, and that you gain appropriate recognition for the competencies you have already acquired.

The RCC process is generally offered to those who have previously worked or are currently working in the industry and are required to complete the qualification. If you think you may be a candidate for an assessment only RPL process, or if you have previously obtained some units of competence then please speak to us regarding prices.
